Good Morning Yoga Sequence
How often do we stop to simply breathe? Really…think. Ironically, as I am trying to do this, my mind is overwhelmed with what I could be doing if I weren’t trying this damn relaxing exercise. My brain is rebelling almost as much as my heart is saying, ‘Thank you, Korin…finally!’
There’s that piece of us that sometimes just needs a little of what I like to call ‘a moment’. I know that if I don’t take that for myself, I get, well…cranky. Just. Plain. Cranky. But why? It is because I’m a woman? Dear lord, no. I’ve seen men get just as moody. (At least we have an excuse!)
In my experience, it’s because we will avoid that quiet, if given the chance. And not because there is anything we are doing that’s ‘wrong’, but rather we are simply human beings living and sometimes, just getting by, in today’s crazy world.
It was through my experience of healing a determined case of acne with essential oils and botanicals, that I found these powerful plant derivatives also helped to calm, nourish and heal the emotional and physical aspects of myself. Today, I want to share a little of what I’ve learned in regards to the peace of mind that essential oils can bring to our emotional selves.
I’m going to start by busting a myth or two:
Myth #1: Essential Oils are made by wizards and, therefore, just a bunch of hocus pocus.
An excerpt from our 3000BC Product Manual:
‘Each essential oil is comprised of complex chemical components created in nature and has distinct aromatic properties which effect the state of the mind. This scientific phenomenon involves the process by which an odor is inhaled and impinges on the olfactory nerve endings at the bridge of the nose. Olfactory receptor cells are stimulated and impulse messages from aromatic molecules in the essential oils are transmitted directly to the brain, affecting the limbic system, one of the most primitive parts of the brain. The limbic system influences memory, emotion, and physiological functions. The compelling power of a pure botanical on the psyche can allay anxiety, relieve depression, relax, stimulate, purify, refresh, energize and affect sexual drive.’
Myth #2: There is no such thing as a ‘pure’ botanical skincare product.
Again, an excerpt from the heavenly 3000BC Product Manual:
‘In pursuit of our ambition, 3000BC offers the highest quality aromatherapy based body care and skin care products available on the global market today. There are so many ways to incorporate essential oils into your life, and by doing so, you invite a state of calm and peace into your daily routine. Try these easy ideas: put a few drops of your favorite scent in your bath or shower, switch your current face wash and moisturizer for a botanical one (go for high-quality, it will pay you back in the long run!), and, of course, use a diffuser and let the scent fill your heart and home. For more great ideas and to learn how each oils effects different emotional states, visit Aroma Web’s post ‘Aromatherapy for Emotional Well Being’.
And, to enjoy an even more powerful relaxation experience, diffuse your favorite essential oil while doing the Good Morning Yoga Sequence (provided by Mind Body Green) shown above. You get to exercise and soothe your spirit all at once!
Uh-oh…there I go, trying to multi-task again.
A work in progress,
