3000BC’s Chestnut Hill Front Desk Manager, Amie Sicoli, has a new ‘do!
She recently chopped off a full 10 inches of hair to donate to Locks of Love! It’s been 9 years since she went this short. That’s 9 full years of dedication and love for some lucky child who will benefit from her donation. “Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.” (www.locksoflove.org) These hair prosthetics are custom made to fit the child’s head, as opposed to most wigs which are made to fit adult heads only. The hairpiece forms a vacuum seal so that there is no need for tape or glue, and only the wearer can remove it by breaking the seal at the temples. Because of this extraordinary design and the generosity of people like Amie, these children and young adults can swim, play sports, run, even shower without any worry or insecurity about their hair loss. “While wearing a hairpiece is certainly not a cure for these children, it can help restore some of the normalcy to their everyday lives that most of us take for granted.” Summer is coming up and a short new haircut wouldn’t hurt, not to mention the fact that it could change one child’s life.
