Today- being particularly stressful- led me to a familiar fantasy: The Great European Escape.
I often find myself dreaming- when the going gets tough enough that I start crying the ‘ugly cry’- that I am in Paris, sitting at cafe, and writing this very blog in my journal (which would of course have a Monet painting on the cover). Did I mention that in this fantasy I am sipping a latte with a pretty design in the foam? Yes, all very cliche, but I can’t help it, I love European things!
By that I mean all of the allure of big European cities…ones that are known for romance, beauty, style, (among so many other things), and women who are confident, sexy, and have an enviable ‘don’t care what you think of me’ attitude.
Perhaps that is what I love the most about their culture- that ‘something’ that french women are known for that I believe every woman has a right to embody (if not at least keep on hand for a much-needed occasion).
Here is an excerpt of a post from one of my favorite blogs, HIPParis, entitled ‘La Beauté: What French women have that we don’t’:
“They don’t strive for perfection-

Freckles, scars, chipped teeth, wild hair—all the things we American girls try to tame and combat are celebrated by French women. They know how to make a freckle or scar sexy (call attention to it! make it a conversation piece!); they don’t let imperfect teeth stop them from smiling; and messy hair looks sexy when it’s tossed up or adorned with sparkly barrettes. American women try too hard to be perfect instead of just reveling in ourselves, our beauty, and what we have to offer.”
{For the full post, well-worth a few minutes of your time, go to ‘La Beaute: What French women have that we don’t‘.}
Good right? Today, let’s take our cue from the French and let our ‘ugly cry’, flat hair, and lopsided smile be as they are…beautiful, imperfect, and completely feminine.
I’d love to hear what parts of your beauty you chose to celebrate today…post your thoughts in the comment box below!
