On the fly…

I am in a jam.

I just got a call from an old friend in the city (Philly, of course) who wants to have my husband, Larry, and I over for drinks. Tonight. In a matter of hours. This is a rare moment where our 3 kids all have plans so us parents might actually get to be‘adults’ this evening. But without any meeting scheduled, I snuck in a very work casual outfit and don’t have time to run home to change! Point being, I do not look ready for a night out and- regardless of how supportive my coworkers are- I simply do not feel pretty. Or like a grownup. It’s tempting to reschedule, but I simply refuse to pass up this great opportunity with Larry and some old friends!

Operation: Crunch Time

First, the face. (Otherwise, I’d have to rename my blog and I’m already short on time!) Right now, I have some blush and mascara that were applied this morning, and my skin is looking dehydrated from being in the office all day, so everything could use a little ‘perking up’. My go to for this is always 3000BC’s Orange Blossom Calming Toner.
A few spritzes and my complexion looks like I have a pulse again. Note: If you don’t regularly use toner, a few sprays of a water bottle will help or, for an added glow and to calm those crunch-time jitters, add a few drops of lavender essential oil to your water bottle before spraying.

Part B of the face to address is the makeup. I’ve taken to carrying one of 3000BC’s new eye shadow quads in my purse, in case I’m caught in a situation like this. I am a big fan of these sorts of things- compacts that have a few eye shadow or lip choices- or both!

For a casual evening with friends, a touch of shadow, mascara, blush, and gloss are sure bets…and maybe some concealer for those dark circles on long days. If the occasion is right, and more time presents itself, dabbling into some darker shadow shades (that’s why I love our new shadow quads-so versatile!), liner, or lipstick are a glamorous touch!

***Hang tight for upcoming editions of Face Time with Korin-In Color!, where 3000BC’s award-winning medical estheticians and cosmetologists, Judy Kim and Leigh-Ann Dolan, show us how to apply liquid liner, choose the right shades for our skin tone, and much, much more!***

Clothing and hair tips on the fly:

*Keep some accessories at work or in your car for these times when you need to get ready in a flash, like a scarf with a pop of color, earrings that sparkle, or a versatile belt.

*Pop a trial size of a new perfume in your bag. Your mysterious, new scent will separate your day and night style, and might even start a new trend!

*To- temporarily- smooth flyaways, take a smidge of hand cream or body lotion and comb through your hair with your fingers…trust me on this one, it works!

Lastly, if there is nothing else I do before meeting with friends, I want to make sure that I can be present and ready for a great time. Tips to distress- Close your eyes, relax your shoulders, and take 3 (or more) deep breaths. Think of the last time you had fun with the people you are meeting and feel a relaxed smile spread across that ‘night-out ready’ face of yours….Mission: Complete!

What are your quick ‘get-ready’ or night out tricks?

Kickin’ up my flats and heels,

Korin.
